Bushwalk

Outdoor Ed Trip #5

I went bushwalking near Mt. Bogong with my (year 10) Outdoor Ed class. Our backpacks were quiet heavy because we had to carry our own tent (half of it as we shared it), food, clothes, etc. It was pretty cold and there was still some snow where we had to walk through. But we were lucky that it never rained and the sky was always blue. We were pretty lucky to see two brumbies (wild horses) on our way. It was a challenge but a good experience.

Surfing Trip

Outdoor Ed Trip #4

On the 25. October, I went on a surfing trip with the year 11 outdoor ed class at Anglesea Beach. We spent 3 nights in tents at the same caravan park as I stayed the month before on the trip along the Great Ocean Road.  After we have arrived and set everything up, we already had our first surfing lesson. I was so excited and it was so much fun (even though I fell so many times of my board). But I managed it to catch some waves and stay on my board a few times.

The next day our surfing lesson was early in the morning. I guess I made some progress (as I didn't fall as often anymore). In the afternoon, we went to Torquay to visit the National Surfing Museum and have a look at the surfing shops.

On our 3rd day, we had a kayak lesson. It was good to do it once but I wouldn't really want to do it again. Then we had some free time to wonder around at Lorne.

On our last day, we had to get up really early and had to be on our boards at 8am. The waves were a bit bigger then the days before which didn't make it much more difficult to get on the board but harder to get out again. After we had packed everything we drove about 5 hours back to Wodonga.

I always wanted to try to surf and am really happy that I got the opportunity to try it. It was so much fun and belongs with the Great Ocean Trip to my highlights of the year.

The Great Ocean Road 🌊

On Thursday the 22nd September, Jenny, Trevor, Max (their dog), Heidi (a friend from school) and I went on a road trip along The Great Ocean Road.
But before we went there, we drove about 4 hours to Ballarat and stayed for 2 nights at a caravan park. The 2nd day, we went to Sovereign Hill, an outdoor museum. They recreated a village from the 1851, the time after the discovery of gold in Ballarat. In the evening we went wo a light and sound show which old the story of the Eureka Rebellion.

On Saturday, we went to Port Campbell to stay there for 2 nights. During the day we went to different nice spots along the coast where we went swimming by 18C. The water was so cold. But I couldn't know when I'll have the opportunity to go swimming in the ocean again, so we just went for it and it was definitely worth it.
On the way to Anglesea Beach we made a stop to see the 12 Apostles. I thought everything always looks better on pictures. But they were really pretty and the stone was really bright even though it wasn't too sunny.
Then we stayed 2 nights at Anglesea Beach and went home afterwards.

Thank you so much Jenny and Trevor for taking me on this holiday.
His week was one of my highlights in Australia so far.

Weekend in Melbourne

My holidays started on the 16th September.
After school has finished Anne-marie and Geoff, a Rotarian, took me to Melbourne where we stayed for 3 nights at a nice family's home.
The next day we celebrated Michelle's (Anne-marie's and Geoff's daughter) 21st birthday and the day after, Geoff took me to the Melbourne Show.
On Monday, we drove to a zoo where just Australian animals were held. I saw lots of wombats, kangaroos, Tasmania devils, birds, emus, koalas and snakes. I got told which snakes are poisonous and which ones will kill me straight away.  (Not scary at all...) But I could go very near a dingo and even pet them which was very cool.

Caving

Outdoor Ed trip #3

My 3rd Outdoor Ed trip was with my year 10 class again. We had to drive a long way to Wee Jasper. When we got near the caves a pretty big tree was laying across the road, so we had to turn around and search another way to get there. After driving another hour or so, we realized that we did't know where we were exactly, so we stopped and waited for someone else to show us the way.

Because the way to our accommodation took a little (bit very much) longer, we just did one cave this day: Signature Cave. We had to abseile to get in and climb a ladder to get out. The first thing you see after getting down there is a grave of a girl who fell down there. Very encouraging, I know.
By the time we came out it was already pretty dark.

The 2nd day, we went to two other caves. To be honest I've forgotten how they were called. We did some more abseiling and climbing (but thank god no ladders anymore).

The 3rd day, we went in another cave before we returned to Wodonga. But well... the bus didn't want to start. So we had to push it almost every time before we wanted to go somewhere. The cave itself was even dirtier than the others because people in the past threw their rubbish down there.

But in general it was a really cool trip. There was a lot of mud, bat shit, which was sometimes a 'bit' gross and some things went a bit different than planed but I would definitely do it again .

Horse Riding

Outdoor Ed trip #2  🏇

I joined the year 11 class at their trip going near Mansfield where we went horse riding because I'm not going to be here anymore next year for this activity.
The horse I was riding was white and called snowy. We did walking, trotting and cantering. Snowy could run pretty fast but he always left a huge gap between the horse in front while walking because he was pretty slow sometimes.

Dookie

🇨🇭🇮🇹🇫🇮🇩🇪🇧🇷🇫🇷🇩🇰🇦🇺

There was a meeting of  rotary exchange students in Dookie, for in- and outbounds. We discovered that some of us don't even live that far away from each other.
We, inbounds, went to an automatic dairy farm, where we saw a lot of  cute calves (,which were way more interesting than the actual milk production) and before and after dinner every outbound did a little presentation about the country they are going to. The inbounds had to answer some questions about their country (just stuff like how the school works etc.).
We spent one night in Dookie and went home the next day. It was so much fun with all of these guys and I cannot wait to see them again.     (27. & 28. August)
